The church was built by the Recaldini family, who lived in the verybeautiful palace located in the present-day via Angeli Custodi. The little church, entitled to the Guardian Angel, is dated 1640 and presents a simple architecture, characterized by a nave with just one bay and pilasters ending with Corinthian capitals to support the cornice, on which the barrel vault leans, interrupted below by two arched windows. The altar is just one and made with marble, with a chalk frame. The original altarpiece, now safeguarded in the parish church, represents the Guardian Angel and is of excellent make, attributable,
it seems, to Fiamminghino. For many years, the church was forsaken and used as a deposit for the hay that was gathered for the parish. In 1964, thanks to the generosity of the local people, it was restored and respectably decorated. The old altarpiece was substituted with a new painting by Brescia’s artist Gatti, depicting the Guardian Angel in the process of safeguarding a child in danger. After the restoration works it was opened to the public on 14 August 1964. Today it is a subsidiary church and a holy Mass is celebrated here occasionally, especially in summer time.
