Church of St. Valentino - Breno
Location

The church, probably built in the 15th century, presents an anomalous structure with two naves preceded by a beautiful Renaissance arcade dated, on the left-side pilaster, 1515. The shape of the church is the outcome of integrations and subsequent revisions attested by architectural details as well as by the interesting pictorial palimpsest, in which learned and popular works of different times and quality are juxtaposed. Such complexity highlights the continuous use of the sanctuary, a destination of strong devotion and intense pilgrimage. It gathered numerous ex-voto offerings, many of which are still on display. Along the walls and on the pilasters figures of saints are frescoed, among which an Antonio da Padova dated 1490 and a group dated 1484. Dating to 1500 is the vault decoration of the second and the third bay of the right-side nave, with the twelve Apostles and the four Doctors of the Church preceded, in the intrados of the primitive triumphal arch, by eight prophets. Figures, scenes and ornamental elements, painted from the 16th to the 18th century, complete the whole arranging themselves on the lunettes and on the remaining coverings.
The altar St. Valentino, at the end of the right-side nave, presents a valuable altarpiece with a Madonna and saints from the early decades of the 16th century.
