From Piazza Roma (Roma’s Square), getting down off a paving flight of steps, you can reach the watermill where the old machineries are still working. It has fifteenth-century origins and was considerably damaged by the flood of 1634.
Before it was owned by Tempini and then was bought by the municipal administration and used as a Museum of the rural life.
Here you can observe old working tools and rediscover the cultural origins of Bienno. It is also fed with a similar system to that of the hammer.
The mill, integral part of the museum system, contains the testimonies related to the rural life of the ancient hammers’ village. It is consistently kept operating thanks to the presence of the Miller, who carries out this activity with the same passion handed down from her ancestors.
The milling supplies corn, white and “black” or Saracen meal of an incomparable quality for the success of the typical dishes.
