The Seradina-Bedolina Municipal Archaeological Park
Location

The Seradina-Bedolina Municipal Archaeological Park was established in 2005 for the purpose of safeguarding and protecting the rock art heritage contained there.
The reserve can be reached from the town of Capo di Ponte and covers a territory between 400 e 600 mt a.s.l. Subjected to a particular sun exposure, the area is characterized by a vegetation typical of warmer climates. Next to the typical middle valley trees, one can spot with wonder some particular species such as Opuntia Compressa, a small prickly pear whose purple fruits evoke the hues of the surrounding outcrops.
Figures and signs from this area were reported by various scholars since the 1930s, but proper research didn’t start until 1963, when Emmanuel Anati, the director and founder of Centro Camuno di Studi Preistorici, gave his attention to the site. In the following three years, Anati defined the sub-zones into which the area is still divided today: Seradina I-Corno, Seradina I-Ronco Felappi, Seradina II, Seradina III and Bedolina, the latter made famous by the assemblage of engravings defined Bedolina “Map”.
In the following years, Centro Camuno focused the research on the big Rock 12 of Seradina I, while Lombardy’s Soprintendenza Archeologica decided to safeguard the Bedolina Map with a restoring action.
Within the Park’s boundaries, one can appreciate five visiting routes showing various types of engravings. The visitor’s eye will catch the majestic warriors-hunters, the numerous ploughing scenes, the huts and the North Etruscan inscriptions. Treading the path that links the Seradina area to Bedolina, one can be charmed by the figures of horns, likely musical instruments, and get to discover the Bedolina Map, positioned on a natural terrace from which one can embrace the countryside below in one broad, sweeping gaze.
Remarkable is Rock 12 at Seradina I, on which one can admire over a hundred engraved figures. Very finely made and often dynamic, they represent scenes of deer hunting and ploughing; duellists, horsemen, deer with big antlers, open-mouthed dogs, heroes holding snakes in their naked hands, praying figures with their arms raised.
Beside these figures, made by a skilled and firm hand, this area is typified also by wholly pecked-in warriors with square bodies.
