The Val Grigna Regional Forest extends over the Municipalities of Berzo Inferiore, Bienno, Bovegno, Esine, Gianico, between the minimum elevation of 1,000 metres and the maximum of 2,207 metres of Mt. Crestoso. The forest gives protection to numerous animal and vegetable
species of precious rarity, such as the grouse and the brown bear, recently reintroduced in Valle Camonica. Worth noticing is the Rosello di Mezzo pasture, where a Fauna Educational Centre has been created, opened to the public in September 2003, thanks to the agreement
between E.R.S.A.F. and the hunting and fishing Council department of the Brescia district.
Numerous forest roads link the shepherd’s huts (Campolungo, Rosello and Caminetto di Cigoleto) and the neighbouring Municipalities, besides the several trails used for the livestock. Furthermore, in the northern part of the Regional Forest, an important trail called “Tre Valli Bresciane” (Three Brescia Valleys) unwinds linking Maniva Pass with Monte Campione, which each year receives hundreds of hikers.
